Question about that singing fish my sister gave me in 2019, I finally get why she did it
I used to think the Big Mouth Billy Bass she got me at a garage sale in Bakersfield was the worst gift ever. It sat in my closet for a long time. Plugged in, it sings and flops around, super annoying.
But when my dad got sick back in March, she drove 4 hours to sit with him every weekend. She never once asked for anything back. I realized the fish was her way of saying she loves me but can't say it out loud.
Now it's on my mantel and I turn it on when I'm bummed. Anyone else got a gift they hated that turned out to mean something?
Kept a ugly ceramic frog from my grandma for years just because I felt bad tossing it. She couldn't ever say stuff out loud either, just showed up with food or random junk from yard sales. Looking back that frog was her whole personality in one ugly little statue, she was telling me she loved me the only way she knew how. Now it sits by my door and I tap its head every time I leave the house. People hand down love in weird packages sometimes and you don't get it til way later.
