Shoutout to my aunt who gave me a pet rock for my 30th birthday

I kept that dumb thing on my desk for 3 years before I realized she was literally trolling me. She finally admitted it last Christmas and we both couldn't stop laughing.

Oh man, I have totally been there. My cousin gave me a bag of dirt once for my 25th and I kept it in my car for two years thinking it was some deep metaphor. Turns out she just thought it would be funny. My advice is keep that rock forever and every time you see it, just remember she loves you enough to waste your time. Makes a great conversation starter at parties too if you ask me. How long did it take you to catch on?

Haha oh man, I love that you kept dirt in your car for two years! That's some next level commitment to finding meaning where there isn't any. I probably would have done the same thing honestly, just waiting for that moment of clarity that never comes. For me it was about six months before I finally asked my aunt if the rock was supposed to be symbolic. She just laughed and said she picked it up from the parking lot because it had a cool shape. I still have it on my desk at home though, and now it's genuinely one of my favorite gifts just because of the whole weird journey. Your cousin sounds like a legend and I bet that dirt bag has way more stories than the rock does now.
