Unpopular opinion: I actually love that salt lamp my aunt gave me last Christmas

I used to roast it until I realized it's been sitting on my nightstand for 9 months and somehow I sleep way better with that dim orange glow on. Has anyone else found a use for a gift they initially hated?

Man I gotta disagree with all of this. That salt lamp just sits there collecting dust and the dim light is actually worse for your eyes than just using a normal lamp. I tried reading with one and got a headache after twenty minutes. And that wool blanket story... I had a similar blanket that my grandma gave me and it was so itchy I couldn't stand it. Ended up giving it to Goodwill after one winter. Sometimes the stuff we hate is just junk that people guilt us into keeping...

Gotta say, @hugo825 kind of hit on something real there (and I feel for you, wyattrobinson, because I've been there with the itchy grandma blanket thing). That salt lamp headache is brutal, I tried one of those Himalayan jobs a few years back and the light was so dim I kept tripping over my own dog. Sometimes you just gotta let go of the stuff that doesn't work, you know?

My brother got me this ugly wool blanket two years ago and I kept it in the closet out of guilt. Then my furnace broke in January and that blanket got me through three freezing nights. Now it's my go-to couch blanket and I actually asked him where he got it so I could buy another one. That salt lamp thing is real too, I got one for my mom and she swears by it for reading at night. Funny how the stuff we think is junk ends up being the stuff we use the most.
