Chose the quiet promotion over my work buddy and now I'm alone at lunch

Last month my manager offered me a lead spot on the night crew, but my friend Rick was also up for it. I took the job and Rick got moved to a different shift, now he won't even look at me when we pass in the hallway. The extra $2.50 an hour is nice but I didn't expect to lose the only person who made 10 hour shifts tolerable. Has anyone here picked the raise over a friend and managed to patch things up, or is that bridge just gone?
