Had a boss tell me my reports were too detailed - took me 6 months to realize he was right

My manager at a logistics company in Omaha told me to cut my monthly inventory reports from 12 pages down to 3. I argued with him for 3 weeks thinking he just didn't want to read. Finally tried his way and found that nobody actually needed the breakdown of every single pallet - they just wanted the summary numbers and exception items. Has anyone else had a boss give criticism that turned out to be a good thing, even though you fought it at first?

Nah, detailed reports saved my team from making costly mistakes more than once.

Yeah, you know what... I used to skip the details and just get the main points. But after a few close calls I started reading the full reports and it definitely saved us too. Changed my mind on that one for sure.
