Hit 200 sick days in 5 years at my job and it shocked me
I was just messing around with my HR portal last night (bored, you know) and decided to add up all my sick leave since I started. I'm at exactly 200 days over 5 years. That's 40 days a year on average, which is basically 2 months of being out. My boss never says anything about it because I have doctors notes for everything (chronic migraines mostly). But it hit me that I've missed so much time and still haven't been fired. Has anyone else ever actually counted their sick days and gotten a surprise number?

Oh yeah that's the thing people don't realize - if you've got the paperwork to back it up, companies usually just let it slide. 200 days is wild but your boss probably figures dealing with a replacement is more trouble than it's worth. Those chronic migraines must be brutal too, like how do you even function after that many episodes? The system really does work both ways though - you get your time off and they keep the headcount steady on paper. Honestly makes you wonder how many other people are quietly racking up numbers like that without anyone batting an eye.

Got to push back on this a little. 200 sick days is a lot, and using migraines as the reason seems shaky unless there's some serious medical proof. Most people I know with real chronic issues are fighting for every single day off, not quietly piling them up without anyone asking questions. And pretending the company is happy because the headcount looks good on paper misses the point. They're probably just waiting for the right moment to let them go, or at least making sure they're not giving them any important work. Feels like this is more of a risk than people want to admit.

Honestly those numbers aren't bad, you're still employed so clearly the system is working for both sides.
