I used to think my boss was just really strict, but last Tuesday I realized she's actually covering up her own mistakes by blaming everybody else

She told me I misfiled the quarterly reports for Q3 but when I checked the timestamps, she was the last person to open that folder at 6pm the night before the audit, has anyone else caught their manager doing this kind of thing?

Did you actually screenshot the timestamps before she had a chance to change them? Because that's the kind of proof you need to CYA, especially if she's the type to gaslight about it later. I'd honestly start keeping a log of every time she blames someone for something that doesn't add up. What did you even say to her when she brought up the misfiling claim?

Did you get a chance to see the original timestamps with your own eyes? Because that's a huge red flag if she's already tried to edit things after the fact. I feel for you honestly, that kind of gaslighting is exhausting and it messes with your head when you know you're right but they keep twisting things. Keeping a log is solid advice, write down every weird accusation and the exact date/time you noticed it. When she brought up the misfiling, I'd have probably just said something like "I checked and those documents were processed the day you said they were, but let me know if you saw something different" just to keep it calm but firm. It's so frustrating when someone blames you for their own mistakes, you don't deserve that treatment.

Man that's rough, I feel for you. Gaslighting at work is the worst because you start second guessing everything even when you know you're right. Keeping that log is honestly the only way to stay sane, just dates and times and exactly what was said so you have something solid to point to later. The fact that she's already trying to edit timestamps says a lot about her character, and honestly people like that usually get exposed eventually because they can't keep their stories straight. Hope you can get out of that situation soon, nobody should have to deal with that kind of nonsense day in and day out.
