PSA: I spent $180 on a coworker's MLM "team retreat" and lost a friend over it
Last month a guy from my office kept pushing this weekend retreat that was supposed to boost our sales mindset. It cost $180 out of my own pocket and he swore the company would reimburse us, which was a total lie. I showed up in Toledo at a rented hall and it was just 40 people getting pitched on his side business for 6 hours. He stopped talking to me after I asked our boss about the money in front of everyone. Has anyone else gotten suckered into a work event that turned out to be a sales pitch?

Idk if losing a friend over 180 bucks is really the big deal here, feels like maybe you dodged something worse long term. The guy lied about getting paid back and then pitched you his side hustle for six hours, so asking your boss in front of people seems fair, not cruel. Sucks about the money but the friend part sounds like it was coming anyway.
