Rant: My dad swore by duct tape for everything until it ruined my bike seat

Back in 2019 he told me duct tape fixes any rubber split. Used it on my bike seat because the foam was poking through. The tape turned into a sticky black mess after 2 weeks in the sun and now the seat is toast. Anyone else get burned by loving that stuff too much?

Duct tape is the devil's gift to temporary fixes that become permanent disasters. My dad patched the armrest on his recliner with the stuff and six months later it looked like a melted gummy bear exploded on the fabric. Tried to peel it off and the whole cushion came with it. Good luck finding a new bike seat that matches your frame now, at least you can bond over the shared hatred of sticky tape residue at family dinners.
