Thought you had to wash chicken before cooking it until my gf caught me at the sink
So I'm 28 years old and I've been cooking chicken for like a decade. Always rinsed it under cold water first cause I thought it washed off bacteria. My girlfriend walked in while I was doing it last month and just stood there staring. She's a nurse. She goes 'you're just spraying salmonella all over your sink.' I felt so dumb lol. Took me like 20 mins to wipe down everything. Anyone else grow up thinking this was the right move?

Hold up though, I still rinse my chicken and I'm not convinced it's that big a deal. The USDA says washing spreads bacteria but a good hot soapy sink scrub after takes care of it in my experience. My grandma washed chicken for like 60 years and nobody got sick, so is it really that risky or just one of those things they tell you to be overly safe?

Man people swear by what their grandma did like it's a scientific study or something!

Right? My grandma's weird cabbage cure made me sicker than a dog once.
