Unpopular opinion: I used to think Golden Gate Bridge was just a tourist trap until I actually walked across it
Visited San Francisco last spring and I told my buddy it was overhyped, but then I stood in the middle and realized the fog rolling in made it feel like a movie scene. Has anyone else had a dumb hot take about a famous landmark that they totally changed their mind on?

Has anyone ever told you about seeing El Capitan in person for the first time? I heard friends describe it for years but when I finally drove up to Yosemite, that massive slab of granite just took my breath away. It's a whole different thing when you can feel the size of it in your bones, you know?

Man, I had a buddy who swore the Grand Canyon was just a big ditch. He said it looked fake in photos and figured it was one of those things people hype up for no reason. Then he took a road trip out west with his wife last fall. He told me he got to the edge, stepped out of the car, and just stood there quiet for like five minutes. Said he actually felt dizzy looking down at the colors and shadows. Changed his whole tune about national parks after that.

Isn't it funny how nature has a way of making us eat our words? I had a similar moment at Yosemite, I thought everyone was exaggerating about Half Dome until I stood there and realized I could barely feel my legs from just looking at it. But hey, at least your buddy's wife probably got a good laugh watching him get humbled by a "big ditch.
