Am I the only one who thinks people overreact to collapsed cakes?

My chocolate cake sank in the middle last Thursday and I just filled the hole with frosting and called it a day. Everyone at dinner said it was the best cake they'd had in months. Has anyone else just rolled with a fail instead of trashing the whole thing?

Best cake they'd had in months" - yeah because you covered up the evidence with frosting, you genius! Honestly, that's just a "rustic" cake at that point, not a fail. I do the same thing with cookies that spread too much, just call them "flat and chewy" and watch people devour them.

Oh man, this takes me back. My buddy Sara once made a birthday cake for her kid and the whole thing split right down the middle when she took it out of the pan. She just slapped some icing on the crack, stuck a bunch of those little candy dinosaurs on top, and called it a "volcano cake." The kids lost their minds over it, thought she planned it that way. She was real proud, kept telling everyone it was supposed to look like that.
