Been going back and forth on butter vs. shortening in pie crusts for 15 years

Finally caved and used all butter for a Thanksgiving apple pie last month, crust came out way flakier but a bit greasy on the bottom, anyone else stuck choosing between the two?

Fifteen years and you just now tried all butter?!

That "fifteen years" bit got me thinking... I had a buddy who swore by margarine for like a decade. Wouldn't touch real butter, said it was too heavy. Then his wife switched it on him without telling him one morning on his toast. He ate it for three weeks before he noticed. When she finally told him, he just sat there quiet for a minute then said "well damn, I guess I've been wrong this whole time." Now he won't use anything else, @henry_martinez. So yeah, I believe people can go that long without trying the real thing... it's just stubbornness or habit more than anything.
