I always thought my oven ran hot, but a $10 thermometer proved me wrong

I was getting uneven bakes on my sourdough loaves, so I grabbed an oven thermometer from the hardware store last weekend. Turns out my oven is actually 25 degrees cooler than the dial says, which explains a lot of my past dense bread fails. Has anyone else had a huge temp difference like that and had to adjust their recipes?

Read that most ovens are off by at least a few degrees lol.

Is it really worth fussing over a few degrees though?

That's a pretty common issue with older ovens. You'll need to set your dial 25 degrees higher than any recipe states now. It makes a huge difference once you account for it.
