My mom told me my pie crust looked like a geology project

She said it was 'tectonically active' and then showed me how to stop overworking the dough... has anyone else gotten feedback from a relative that actually made you a better baker?

That's a solid roast from your mom but at least she followed it up with help... most people just dish out the criticism and walk away. My aunt once told me my cookies looked like they'd been dropped off a cliff and then picked back up, which was honestly pretty accurate. She showed me how to chill the dough so they wouldn't spread into flat pancakes, and now I actually get compliments instead of people asking if I meant to make cookie bark. Family can be brutal but they're usually right when it comes to baking.

My grandma told me my bread looked like I’d been punching it into submission instead of kneading it. She was right, I was way too rough with the dough. She showed me how to fold it gentle like a baby blanket and now my loaves actually rise. That one comment changed my whole baking game, nothing like a family member roasting you into being better.

That gentle touch tip from @skyler_smith85 works wonders, turns a brick into bread real quick.
