Tried baking bread in my car in Phoenix last July and it actually worked
I left a loaf of dough in a metal pan on my dash while I ran errands for 3 hours, mostly as a joke because it was 112 degrees outside. Came back and the top was fully baked with a golden crust while the middle was still raw goo, so I finished it in the oven for 20 minutes and my roommates ate the whole thing. Has anyone else baked with car heat, and did yours actually cook through or did you get the raw middle too?
Skip the metal pan next time because it heats up too fast and burns the bottom while the middle stays raw. Put the dough in a dark ceramic or cast iron dish and flip it halfway through, that gets you a much more even bake. You still won't get it fully cooked in the car alone, so plan on finishing it inside like you did.
