Vent: Hit 50 failed macaron batches before finally getting it right

I mean, I knew macarons were tricky but I didn't think it would take me 50 tries across 4 months to get one edible batch. Every single time something went wrong. Hollow shells, cracked tops, no feet, lopsided shapes. I wasted like 30 eggs just in one week alone. Finally yesterday I got a batch with perfect feet and smooth tops and I almost cried. Has anyone else had a baking project take way longer than you expected?

You mentioned wasting 30 eggs in one week, what was the worst failure you had taste-wise?

Did you actually try to eat it or did you just dump the whole batch? Because I had this one time where I was trying to make a quiche (my first try ever) and I used way too much salt plus I forgot to add any cheese. It came out of the oven looking fine but it tasted like a salty, rubbery sponge. I took one bite and almost cried, it was that bad. Ended up throwing the whole thing out and ordering pizza instead, which felt like such a waste of those 30 eggs.

Did you at least get a good arm workout from all that whisking? I'd say 50 batches is less a baking project and more a character-building exercise in stubbornness.
