Hit $10k in savings and honestly thought it was a glitch
Been using the same credit union app for years and watched my balance crawl up. When it finally crossed $10k I had to log out and back in like 3 times because I was sure their system messed up. Growing up my family never had that kind of buffer so seeing a 5 digit number in my account felt like a prank. Has anyone else had that moment where your own bank balance feels fake?

That whole "log out and back in" thing is way more common than people admit. The wild part nobody talks about is how your brain literally rewires itself to expect lower numbers, so when it breaks that ceiling you feel almost guilty or something. It took me like six months before I stopped accidentally mentally subtracting a thousand from my balance whenever I checked it. Kinda messed up how our own expectations can gaslight us like that, you know?

That mental subtraction thing you're describing, did it ever mess with your actual spending decisions? Like I'm curious if you caught yourself not buying stuff you could easily afford because your gut was still operating on the old budget numbers. In my experience, that feeling of guilt or weirdness can actually be useful as a cheat code to keep spending in check, but it's a fine line between that and just straight up shortchanging yourself for no reason.

Setting a recurring alarm helped me break that mental habit, honestly.
