Hot take: I was paying my credit card twice a month for 3 years and didn't know it
I feel like such an idiot. For about 3 years I was making a payment on the 1st and then another one on the 15th because I thought that was how you were supposed to "stay ahead" of the interest. My bank never said a word. Last Tuesday I was setting up autopay for my electric bill and the app showed me a breakdown of my last statement, and that's when I saw it: a line that said I had a credit balance of $412. I had been overpaying every single month and just letting my own money sit there doing nothing. I called the bank in Kalamazoo and the woman on the phone was nice about it but basically said yeah, you only need to pay the statement balance once. Three years of juggling two due dates for nothing. Has anyone else done this or am I just the only one who never read the fine print?
