I paid $12 a month for overdraft alerts and it still cost me $105 in fees
Signed up for my bank's low balance text alerts back in March thinking it would keep me out of trouble. Nope. The alert comes at 11pm, the fee hits at midnight, and there's no way to move cash that fast. So now I just keep a $200 cushion in checking and skip the $12 service, and I have not paid a single overdraft fee since May.
Wait, the alert comes at 11pm? That seems designed to fail. What time does your bank close its daily processing anyway, is it a small local bank or one of the big ones? I ask because my old bank cut off deposits at 8pm for same day credit, so even if you moved money at 11 it would post the next day and you'd still get hit. Did you ever call and ask them to waive the fees since you had the alert service? Curious if they gave you a runaround or actually refunded anything.
