Just realized my credit union charges $25 for a wire transfer that my bank does for free
I was about to send $3,000 for a car purchase last Saturday and the teller casually mentioned the fee, so now I'm shopping around for a better deal on outbound wires before I hit send.

My buddy Tom just went through this exact thing last month when he was buying a used truck off Craigslist. His credit union wanted $30 for a wire so he ended up driving 45 minutes to a different bank branch that did it for free. Took him two hours of his Saturday but he said it felt good to stick it to the man over thirty bucks. Now he jokes that he'll only move his money if they start charging per swipe.

Why do banks charge so much for something that costs them basically nothing to do? Tom's got the right attitude honestly. Thirty bucks is thirty bucks and a two hour drive beats handing it over for no good reason. I'd probably do the same thing just out of spite lol.
