My bank reversed a $2,300 charge three weeks ago and I'm still waiting

I bought a used car from a private seller in Phoenix and the next day the transmission died completely, so I disputed it with Chase. They gave me a temporary credit but now they're saying I need to fax them a mechanic's report from 1987 or something wild like that. Has anyone else dealt with a bank dragging their feet on a fraud claim like this?

Oh man I totally used to be on your side with this one. I used to think banks always had your back and would fix stuff like this quick. But then my own card got hit with a big charge and they dragged it out for almost two months with a million hoops to jump through. It changed how I see the whole system. Banks are not your friend they are just following rules that don't make sense for real life problems. Now I figure if you buy something as-is or from a stranger you pretty much own the risk no matter what the bank says. It sucks but I'd bet Chase is gonna make this as painful as possible so you just give up.

ugh tell me about it. my sister bought a phone off some guy on facebook marketplace and it was literally a brick. she tried to do a chargeback and the bank basically said "sorry you chose to buy from a rando, not our problem." they made her file a police report and everything and still denied it. i swear banks just want you to jump through hoops til you get bored and walk away. it's like they count on you giving up. and the worst part is my sister is super stubborn so she fought it for months and still got nothing back. such a waste of energy.
