My friend in Denver still writes checks for his rent and it's making me nervous

He mailed one last week and it got lost, so his landlord called asking where the payment was. I keep telling him to set up a direct bank transfer or use his bank's online bill pay, but he says he likes the paper trail. Has anyone else had to convince someone to move away from checks for regular bills?

Wait, he MAILED it? That's the part that got me. I have to mail stuff for work sometimes and it's a total gamble. My coworker sent a birthday card to her niece last month and it showed up three weeks late, the party was long over. Your friend is trusting his rent payment to that system? That's brave.

Honestly the "total gamble" part is so true. I had to mail a signed form for a doctor's visit once and it just vanished, never got there. Tbh if your rent is late because of the mail you still owe the fee, the landlord does not care. It's wild to me that anyone would risk that when you can just pay online.

Right? Who even has checks anymore? It feels like trusting a carrier pigeon when you could just send a text. I'd be a nervous wreck waiting for that to clear.
