Saw Zelle payments go from instant to 3 day holds after my bank made one change to their fraud filter

I've been using Zelle to pay my landlord $1,200 every month for like 2 years now. Always cleared in seconds. Then about 6 weeks ago my bank rolled out a new fraud detection update. Suddenly my payments started taking 2 to 3 business days to go through. Landlord was getting annoyed. I called support and they said the new system flagged anything over $500 as suspicious by default. Had to verify my identity three times over the phone before they whitelisted my landlord's account. Has anyone else seen their instant transfer speeds tank after a bank update?

Did your landlord threaten to evict you over the slow payments?

Guess my landlord's getting a crash course in patience while banks play fraud detective lmao.

Read a pretty solid breakdown of this on a tech subreddit a few weeks back. Apparently a lot of banks are tightening up their fraud filters because Zelle payments are way harder to reverse than credit card charges once they hit the wrong account. So your bank basically just cranked up the threshold for anything over $500. Sucks that you had to jump through hoops to fix it, but at least they let you whitelist your landlord. Should be smooth sailing from here on out unless they change the filters again.
