The $1.50 wire transfer fee I used to ignore is now a dealbreaker for me
Last year I'd send money to my nephew in Austin for his birthday and not even look at the fee. Then in March I got hit with a $15 international transfer charge for a $40 gift to my cousin in Mexico. That made me actually compare what my credit union charges versus the big apps. Turns out I was throwing away like $60 a year on convenience fees without thinking. Now I check the fee breakdown before every single transfer, has anyone else started doing this after one bad charge?

Yeah I read something the other week about how banks are making billions off these small fees because people just don't notice them. It's wild how they sneak it in there on purpose, you know? My wife got hit with a $12 fee on a $25 birthday transfer to her niece in Ireland and now we're total sticklers about it. We actually keep a list on our phone of what each app charges for different countries. The local credit union in our town is way cheaper for Mexico but one of those big apps is better for Canada, it's honestly exhausting trying to keep up with it all.
