Tried PayPal checkout vs Square for my small shop and Square won hands down
I run a small pottery studio in Austin and was using PayPal for all my in-person payments. After 6 months, I got tired of the clunky reader and the fees adding up. Switched to Square last month and the difference is night and day. The flat 2.6% fee is way easier to track, and the deposits hit my account next day instead of waiting 3 days. Anyone else had better luck with one over the other for small business payments?

Had a buddy who owns a food truck in Portland swear by Square for years. He tried PayPal after seeing some ad and said it was a total headache. The card reader kept disconnecting mid-order and he lost a few sales because people got annoyed and walked off. He switched back to Square within a month and said it was like coming home. He told me the fee difference was noticeable too, like hundreds of bucks a month just in random PayPal surcharges. Take that with a grain of salt though, his setup was pretty basic.

Man that sucks. I feel for your buddy, losing sales because of bad gear is the worst feeling, especially in a food truck where every minute counts. Those random surcharges add up quick, I've seen it with a couple of my clients who run small shops. Glad he went back to what worked, sometimes you just gotta stick with a system that isn't gonna screw you over.
