Watched a guy at a flea market in Tulsa pay for a $3 coffee mug with his watch, and the lady behind the table just stared at him
I was at a flea market in Tulsa last weekend and saw something that stopped me in my tracks. There was this older guy buying a coffee mug for $3 and instead of pulling out cash or a card, he just tapped his watch on this little screen the vendor had set up on her table. The vendor, who had to be in her 70s, just stared at him for a second like he had pulled a rabbit out of a hat. Then she laughed and said "I've been selling here for 12 years and nobody's ever done that." I got to talking with her after and she told me she only started taking card payments about 3 years ago because her grandson set it up for her. Now she said half her sales come through that little reader and she barely touches cash anymore. It got me thinking about how fast all this stuff changed, like when I was a kid going to the bank with my mom on Saturday morning was a whole event. Has anyone else noticed the little moments where you realize cash is basically becoming the weird option?
