Went with a credit union over a big bank for my business account and it has been bumpy
I opened a business checking account at a local credit union in Columbus back in January because the fees were lower than Chase. But their mobile app is clunky and I keep having to call for simple stuff like setting up ACH payments. Meanwhile my friend with a Chase account just does everything through his phone. Has anyone else dealt with this tradeoff between saving on fees and losing on convenience?

My buddy ditched his credit union after the app kept crashing on him.

I saw someone mention that some of those smaller credit unions are still running on ancient backend systems, so the apps are just glitchy. Can't blame your buddy for jumping ship when it keeps crashing.

I mean I get being frustrated but switching banks over a glitchy app feels a little short sighted to me. Most of those smaller credit unions are working with way less money than the big banks, so their tech is gonna be clunkier sometimes. But that trade off usually means better rates, lower fees, and actual customer service where someone picks up the phone. A crashing app is annoying sure, but is it really worth giving up all that just to have a smoother mobile experience? Once the big bank app goes down or they hit him with some random fee he'll probably be singing a different tune.
