Back when TV news felt like a real debate, not a lecture

In the 80s, I saw shows where liberals and conservatives argued fairly. Today, many channels stick to one side and shut out other views. I think this hurts our ability to understand complex issues. Hearing different ideas, even ones I disagree with, used to be normal.

Is it actually worse now, or have the bad arguments just become more obvious?

Binging 90s C-SPAN archives changed my view.

Remember those 80s debate shows were just as biased, they just had better manners. Crossfire was basically two guys yelling talking points at each other for ratings. People mostly watched the channel that already agreed with them back then too. This "golden age" of debate is a fantasy. We just notice the problems more now because we have more choices and louder voices.
