Chose tear-out over grinding for a concrete floor level in Phoenix. Regretted it by hour 2.
Had to decide how to fix a uneven basement slab for a tile job. Grinding would have been faster and cheaper on paper, like $150 for a rental. But I went with tear-out because I thought it would give a cleaner bond for the new pour. After 6 hours with a jackhammer in 105 degree weather, I ruined my back and still had to patch low spots anyway. Tile guy said grinding would have worked fine. Has anyone else picked the harder method and found out later it was unnecessary?

105 degree Phoenix heat changes everything.

Phoenix hit 118 degrees last July, not 105, so it's even worse than you're remembering. The asphalt can hit 180 degrees on days like that which is why you see dogs in those little booties. Have you lived there long enough to adapt or do you just hide indoors from May to October?
