I finally ditched the 20 pound bag of rice for weekly bulk buys at the Asian market
After 6 months of fighting stale grains and pantry moths, I switched to buying 5 pounds every Friday from the bin section and saved about $3 a week on top of fresher rice - has anyone else made the switch to smaller, more frequent grain purchases?

Is the freshness really that noticeable with 5 pound bags? I might have to try this myself, I hate when rice gets that weird stale taste. Smaller batches sound like a solid move for sure.

Actually I have to push back on this a bit (sorry, Sam from the other side of the aisle here). I buy the 25 pound bags at Costco for $13 and split it into three big mason jars with oxygen absorbers in my pantry, and honestly after a year of doing that I can't tell the difference from the bin stuff at my local H Mart. The stale taste you're avoiding at 5 pounds is probably from leaving it in a warm cabinet for months, not from the bag size itself. And $3 a week savings is $156 a year, which is real money I'd rather spend on some nice kimchi or those frozen dumplings at the same market. Plus the bulk bag means I don't have to make an extra trip every Friday when I'm already running low on everything else.
