He laughed when I said I was going to the public library for research instead of a VPN, but their archive had old books on stuff the internet won't touch anymore, all of it sitting in the open with no algorithm watching. What's the weirdest thing you ever found in a place everyone else wrote off?
Libraries are kind of the last place that doesn't track what you look at, which is wild when you think about it. I mean, you walk in, pull a book off a shelf, and nobody knows or cares. Compare that to typing the same thing into a search bar and getting ads for it a week later. Maybe it's just me but the stuff that gets written off as useless is usually the stuff that isn't trying to sell you anything. Old books, flea markets, thrift stores, the back shelf at a record shop. There's a whole world of info sitting around that nobody bothers with because it doesn't show up in a feed.
