My truck's transmission blew at 87k miles and the dealer said 'that's normal wear'

Took my 2019 Silverado into the Chevy dealer in Tulsa after the transmission started slipping on I-44. They told me 87k miles is within expected life for an 8-speed and quoted me $4,200 for a rebuild. I told them that's garbage and limped it to a local transmission shop instead. Has anyone else had a dealer try to sell you on planned obsolescence for a powertrain component?

Man that dealer is full of it, my buddy's 2016 went 150k before needing anything.

Yeah "full of it" is putting it lightly. These dealers act like 100k is some magic number where engines just explode, but it's total marketing to get you into a new car. My old F150 had 210k on it before I sold it, still ran fine aside from normal stuff like alternators and brakes. The key is just staying on top of basic maintenance like oil changes and fluid flushes. A well maintained modern truck will easily do 200k without major repairs 99% of the time. Dealer just wants to scare people who don't know better into trading in early.

Right there with you, my 07 Silverado went 195k before I finally let it go.
