My uncle swore by putting dish soap in the gas tank to clean injectors. Tried it once and it grenaded my 98 F-150's engine.
He said it was a old mechanic trick and I believed him because he worked at a garage for 20 years. Ended up costing me $2,800 for a new fuel system and tow. Has anyone else heard of this actually working or was he just messing with me?

Doesn't your uncle owe you at least part of that repair bill for his bad advice?

Oh man, that really sucks about your truck, but I'm actually gonna argue the other side here. Dish soap can work if you do it right, like a tiny bit mixed with fuel to break down carbon deposits. The issue is your uncle probably used way too much or didn't mix it properly, cause that stuff clogs up injectors and pumps when it's concentrated. I've seen guys on old school forums swear by a capful per tank on high mileage engines to clean things out, but it's super risky on anything newer than 90s tech. Your F-150 just couldn't handle that much soap, it's not that the trick is total garbage, it's that the dose and delivery are everything.
