The before and after on my shop's air filter setup blew my mind

I swapped out the standard fiberglass filters for a 4 inch MERV 13 in my workshop 2 months ago. The difference in dust buildup on my tools and the air quality is night and day. Before I was blowing out a layer of fine dust every few days, now I barely see any after a full week of sanding. Has anyone else made the switch to a thicker filter and seen this much change?

Hang on, is this really that big of a deal though? I swapped to a 4 inch MERV 13 in my garage last year and honestly I didn't notice that much difference. Like yeah, maybe the dust settled a little slower but I was still blowing out my tools every few days doing woodworking projects. Feels like people hype up these thick filters way too much, maybe it's more about your specific setup than the filter itself.

Wait, HOLY COW, you put a MERV 13 in your GARAGE and didn't notice a huge difference? That's wild to me because I put a cheap 1 inch MERV 8 in my workshop area and I can literally see the air clearing up after I sand something. Like, the dust cloud just vanishes in a few minutes instead of hanging around for an hour. Maybe your system just has really bad airflow or something, or maybe the filter is too thick for the fan to pull air through properly? That's the only way I can wrap my head around you not seeing a massive improvement because for me it was night and day different.
