Hot take: should you taper the back of a buzz cut or just go straight across?

Had a customer last Thursday say he prefers no taper at all because it looks cleaner as it grows out, but my mentor always told me a slight taper is the only way to avoid the 'helmet head' look. Which side do you guys lean toward for a simple #2 guard all over?

Totally feel you on this one man. I went back and forth for months before I finally landed on a slight taper. Straight across just looked like a bowl cut once the sides started growing out after a week. But I get why that customer wants no taper, especially if hes the type to stretch his haircuts to 6 weeks. For a #2 all over I always do a tiny fade at the bottom just to soften the transition. It keeps that clean military look without the helmet head problem.

Exactly what I went through too. Took me three haircuts before I finally settled on that slight taper. @james_kim nailed it with the tiny fade at the bottom - that one little detail makes a world of difference for keeping it clean without it looking like a helmet after week two.
