Hold the clippers however you want if it gets the job done. Some of the best fades I've seen come from barbers using a weird grip that looks wrong to everyone else. That parietal ridge area is tricky, and sometimes you need an odd angle to follow the bone right. If the blend is smooth and the client is happy, who cares about the "right" way to hold the tool.

Yo, that's so true. I've seen guys hold clippers like a pencil for detailing around the ear, total control. It's all about muscle memory for those tight spots, not some textbook pose. If the wrist is comfy and the line is crisp, that's the only grip that matters.

Wait, you've actually seen people hold clippers like a pencil? That sounds so unstable to me. I can't picture how you'd even get enough pressure for a clean line without dropping it. My brain just can't make it work. I always thought a firm, full-hand grip was the only way to keep it steady. If it works for them, great, but I'd be terrified of slipping and nicking someone.
