Shoutout to the old barber in Tucson who told me to stop rushing my fades
I was at a shop on 4th Ave last month waiting for my own cut and watched this guy take a full 20 minutes on one skin fade. He told me most new barbers rush the blend because they are scared of the clipper. I tried slowing down on my last 5 clients and the lines came out cleaner than anything I did after 3 years of cutting. Has anyone else had a mentor call out their speed like that?
That whole thing reminds me of how people do everything now, rushing through stuff because they're scared of not knowing what comes next. My grandpa used to say the same thing about cooking, if you rush the onions you ruin the whole meal. Slowing down is like a lost skill these days and it shows up everywhere, not just in barber shops.
