The clipper gap trick that saved my fade work last Friday

I had a regular with a nasty cowlick right above his ear, every fade looked patchy no matter what guard I used. Out of frustration I tried pulling the skin tighter and angling the clipper blade down at 45 degrees instead of flat, it smoothed the blend in one pass. Has anyone else dealt with a stubborn cowlick like that, what do you do when the grain fights you?

That 45 degree angle trick is solid, but you know what really kills a cowlick? Going against the grain with a zero gapped trimmer first, then hitting it with the clipper over the top. Locks the hair down in a different direction so the blend sits flat instead of fighting you.
