The day I picked shears over clippers for a full head of hair

About 8 years back a customer in Louisville asked me to do his whole cut with just shears, no clippers at all. I said yes even though I was way faster with the machine, and man it took me almost twice as long but the texture came out way better than I expected. Have any of you old school barbers tried ditching clippers for a full scissor cut on a guy with thick hair?

Read an article that said scissor cuts let hair lay more natural.

Honestly @robertgreen, I'm pretty sure my barber could use a butter knife and my hair would still somehow end up looking the same (which is to say, a mess). But I guess scissors are better than razors for that "laying natural" thing, right? Sounds like a fancy way to say "your hair won't stick straight up.

My buddy Vinny from back in the day swore by this one barber who only used scissors for everything, even the neckline. Once I watched him trim Vinny's crew cut with scissors and it took like 45 minutes for hair that short. Vinny ended up looking like a hedge that got trimmed by a blind guy with a ruler. I tried it once myself and my cowlicks just laughed at me. So I dunno, maybe that article never met my hair.
