TIL the clipper guard wall in my shop in Phoenix has been telling me which guards get used most
Three years of cutting in the same chair and I just noticed last month that the #1 guard hook is worn down to bare metal while the #4 is spotless, so I stopped stocking four of the six guards I buy and nobody at the shop noticed for a full month, has anyone else tracked guard wear to cut their supply bill?
The part about the #1 hook worn to bare metal got me thinking because I read a thing a while back from a barber supply blog saying guard wear is actually a decent way to figure out your real cutting ratios. The guy who wrote it said he started weighing his guards on a kitchen scale every few months and the lighter ones were always the ones flying off the shelf. Same idea as your hook, just a different way to spot it. Wild that nobody at your shop noticed four guards missing for a month, that tells you more about what you actually need than any sales sheet ever would. Cutting the supply list down based on real wear sounds like easy money saved.
