Hot take: Stop using lighter fluid on charcoal that's already lit

I saw a guy at a park cookout last Saturday douse his already glowing coals with lighter fluid. The flames shot up like 4 feet and he almost lost his eyebrows. I bit my tongue but seriously, that stuff is for starting, not for fixing a fire that's already going. Has anyone else seen people do crazy stuff like this and just had to walk away?

Oh man, that reminds me of my buddy who thought he could "freshen up" a campfire by pouring gasoline on it. The flames went straight up a pine tree and we spent the next hour apologizing to the park ranger. Some people just want to see the world burn, I guess.

Did your buddy at least get a good story out of it? Gasoline and fire is a combo that never ends well.
