A customer insisted I use a specific brand of primer for their bathroom and I rolled my eyes internally.

They brought in a can of this 'StainLock' stuff, claiming it was the only thing that worked over their old oil paint. I was sure it was just marketing, but after two coats, the new latex paint stuck perfectly with zero bleed-through. Has anyone else had a product they doubted completely change a job?

Totally get that feeling of doubting a customer's weird product pick. Had a client swear by this cheap caulk from a hardware store brand I'd never trust, but the stuff stayed flexible for years without cracking. Makes you wonder how many other "gimmicky" products actually work. Sometimes the person living with the problem really does know the secret fix.

Yeah, the "person living with the problem" line hits home. I once argued with a homeowner about using dish soap to stop their deck stain from beading up. I was so sure it was a dumb hack. Tried it later on a scrap piece and felt like a total clown when it worked perfectly. Now I just nod and take notes when someone has a weird fix. My professional pride has taken a few of those hits.

That cheap caulk story is a perfect example.
