Changed my whole approach after a customer called me out
I used to just nod along when customers complained about wait times, thinking it was out of my hands. Then a lady in Delray Beach told me, 'You don't even pretend to care, do you?' right after a 12 minute ticket delay. That stung, but she was right. Now I actually walk over and update people every 5 minutes instead of hiding in the back. Anyone else had a rude customer fix a blind spot in your service?

Best fix is setting a timer on your phone to update them before they even have to ask.

Yeah exactly, I started doing this and it's been a GAME CHANGER. I set a recurring timer for like 7pm every night to just quickly text my partner "hey, heading out soon" or "still at work, gonna be another hour". Saves me from getting those annoyed texts while I'm in the middle of something and she's wondering where I am. Honestly its way less stressful than trying to remember to do it on my own.

Setting a timer to text your partner that you're still alive is peak adulting right there. Now I just need one to remind me to take the trash out before she sends me a link to a storage unit. Guess we're all just training ourselves to be slightly less disappointing humans one alarm at a time.
