Finally got a regular who tips in cash after a year of serving them
I've been waiting on this couple every Saturday brunch for like a year now at the diner on 5th, and they always pay with a card and leave maybe 5 percent. Last week they handed me a $20 bill and said "you always remember our order." Anybody else have a customer who suddenly changed after months of being quiet?

Read this article once about how some people take a long time to trust service workers before they show appreciation. Maybe they were testing you, like seeing if you'd remember their regular order without them having to ask. That $20 bill means they finally see you as a person and not just someone bringing food. It's weird how some customers act like you're invisible for months and then one day they just flip a switch.

Yeah the whole "flip a switch" thing is so real. I've had regulars who literally stared through me for six months straight. Not even a nod. Then one day they just start asking about my day. It's jarring. That $20 tip is them admitting they were wrong to ignore you for so long. Some people just take forever to warm up. But when they finally do, it's like a weight lifts.
