I finally compared paper towels head to head at the coffee shop

Ran out of the cheap generic ones and grabbed a roll of the heavy duty Select-A-Size from the supply closet - the difference in cleanup time was almost 3 minutes per rush. Has anyone else noticed how much faster you get through customers when you don't have to double or triple up on towels?

That "almost 3 minutes per rush" is a HUGE difference for such a simple swap.

Wait, didn't I read somewhere that those extra minutes really add up when you figure in total workload across a whole day? I remember an article saying even small time sinks like that can mess with your entire shift rhythm. You start rushing the next thing to make up for the lost time, and then mistakes happen. It's not just about the 3 minutes themselves, it's about the chain reaction that follows.

The 3 minutes per rush adds up fast, especially if you're hitting multiple rushes in a shift. Try stacking a small stack of the heavy duty sheets at each station before the rush hits, that way you're not fumbling for the roll when things get busy. And keep a damp rag handy for the big spills, then just use one paper towel to dry and finish instead of soaking up everything with towels. Saves even more time and keeps the towels lasting longer.
