I finally counted my 'where is the bathroom' questions and got 87 in one 8 hour shift.
I work the register at a gas station off I-70 near Columbia, Missouri, and a couple Tuesdays ago I got curious about how many times I point people to the restroom. So I kept a little tally on a receipt in my pocket. By the time my shift ended, I had 87 marks, and that was just one day. The wild part is I also counted 14 people who asked while literally standing under the sign that says restrooms in big letters. One guy even asked me while his hand was on the door. What got me is that almost nobody asks for directions to anything else, not the air pump, not the coffee, just the bathroom. It made me realize how much of this job is just being a human signpost for people who are stressed out on a road trip. I told my coworker and she said she once counted 100 on a holiday weekend. Does anyone else keep weird counts like this just to stay sane on a long shift?
