Rant: Customer yelled at me for 10 minutes because we don't carry purple mulch

This happened last Saturday at the store in Austin... guy comes in demanding purple mulch for his flower beds. I told him we only have brown, black, and red. He said "well that's ridiculous, my wife specifically asked for purple" and then went on about how we're a hardware store and should have everything. Like yeah sir, let me just call up the mulch fairy and get some custom dyed for you... Has anyone else had customers get mad about stuff that obviously doesn't exist?

Tbh the mulch fairy comment got me. But you do actually have purple mulch. It's not super common but some places carry it, they dye it with like grape colored stain or something. Not saying you should have had it in stock but it's out there.

My friend Kim actually bought purple mulch once because she thought it would look fun around her hostas. Looked more like a grape Kool-Aid spill than anything natural, @loganl22. The dye faded to this weird grayish pink after a few weeks of rain, and she spent the whole summer regretting it.

My buddy Mike fell for that purple mulch hype two years back. Bought a dozen bags for his front flower bed. Looked like Barney threw up in his yard for three weeks. Then it rained and all that purple washed onto his concrete walkway. Stained it permanently pink. His wife still brings it up every spring when they're buying regular brown bark.
