Serious question, why do people think they can just walk behind the counter?

I mean, I work at a coffee shop downtown and it happens at least twice a week. Someone will lean over, or just push the little gate open, to grab a straw or a napkin. Idk, maybe it's just me but that's not okay. It's a safety thing and a hygiene thing. I had a guy last month reach right over my shoulder while I was steaming milk, and he almost got burned. When I said something, he just shrugged and said 'I was in a hurry.' That's not how this works. Your rush doesn't mean you get to invade my workspace. Has anyone else had to put up a sign or something to stop this?

That sense of entitlement is wild, isn't it? I saw a customer walk straight into a restaurant kitchen once to complain about his food. The line cooks just stared at him like he had two heads. Some folks really don't see boundaries.

I mean, maybe the food was really that bad though. Idk if it's always entitlement.
