Shoutout to the guy who taught me to wrap plates in towels instead of bubble wrap

I used to spend 20 minutes carefully taping bubble wrap around every single dinner plate during takeout prep... now I just stack them with a clean bar towel between each one and chuck them in a bag. Been doing it since last fall when a dishwasher showed me the trick, and I've only had one crack in like 8 months. Anybody else got a weird shortcut that actually works better than the official way?

Did you ever try wrapping them in t-shirts instead, works just as good for me.

Wait, isn't that basically the same thing though? T-shirts are just thicker fabric, but the real issue is loose wrapping (you know, so they can still breathe). If you wrap anything too tight, they'll suffocate no matter what you use. I tried t-shirts once and ended up with the same sweating problem after a few hours. The material really matters for airflow, not just the shape of the cloth. But hey, whatever works for you I guess.

My sister worked at a moving company for like 2 years and she taught me a similar thing but with moving blankets for furniture, not plates. She said the key is using something that has some give to it, like a towel or a t-shirt, because bubble wrap is too rigid and can actually create pressure points if you aren't careful. I think kimreed has a good point about t-shirts, I've used old cotton ones for small things and never had a problem with sweating or cracking, maybe it depends on how tight you wrap them. The biggest thing is making sure whatever fabric you use is clean and dry, because any moisture trapped against the plate is what really causes issues over time. So yeah, I'd say towels or t-shirts both beat bubble wrap for me, it's way faster and I've never had a single break since switching.
